Dr. Lewter joined the AHVMF BOD in 2011 and is currently our Scholarship Committee Chair. She is a Virginia native who attended VA Tech to receive degrees in animal science and Biology. Her veterinary training was completed at the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine in 1981. Dr. Lewter then completed an internship at the Department of Rural Practice at University of Tennessee College of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Lewter completed the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS) certification in 1992 and the IVAS Chinese Herbal medicine course in 1995.
In 1994, a turning point in her life came after attending the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association conference where she discovered the fellowship of others who desired to offer additional options to their patients. In 2010, after years of seeing the success of holistic medicine, Dr. Lewter decided to exclusively practice holistic medicine and Holistic Veterinary Consultants was born. In addition, she is a member of IVAS, American Academy of Veterinary Acupuncture (AAVA), Veterinary Botanical Medical Association (VBMA), and the AHVMA.
